The Block Arcade is one of Australia’s premier shopping destinations with its glass canopy and carved stone befitting its contemporary outlook.
The arcade serves as a connection point between Elizabeth Street, Collins Street and Little Collins Street in the CBD. The arcade, built in the late 19th century, was inspired by the grandiose Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Italy’s most populous city, Milan. With construction coming to a close in 1893, the arcade opened its doors to shoppers.
Today, The Block Arcade is home to lots of stylish and eclectic shops. Our famous Block Team Rooms is a photographer’s haven and walk up to the heart of The Block to the new Crêperie Saint Germain for a taste of France. If you’ve worked up a sweat darting from spot to spot, pop into Barbarella Gelato & Wine for Gelateria Primavera’s famous gelato and no-fuss sandwiches.
At Gewürzhaus Block Arcade, spice is nice, as are their herbs, salts, sugars and teas. Get some special cards, wrap and ribbons for your gifts at Card & Caboodle, whose range includes creations by local artists.
Discover the surrealist secret art collection of Dr. Seuss at Harvey Galleries or select timeless designs at Georg Jensen ranging from halo jewellery to stylish home products.
You can easily fall in love with the creations in the French Jewelbox or laugh at loud at the Art of Dr Seuss. You can also wander around savouring all sorts of small delights… for instance, the honey tasting station at Beechworth Honey.
Be sure to visit soon… you can enjoy to ‘see and be seen’ while you pretend you are in Milan at the very grand Galleria Vittoria!
